Welcome to a new home for words.
I used to write. Newspaper articles, a creative column, diaries and journals; notes upon notes upon notes; short stories, poetry, and long letters to myself.
Nowadays, and for the last 10 years or so, I’ve transitioned to an academic lifestyle. I still write. I probably write more than ever. But it’s not the same. My outputs have become an eerie mirror of my thoughts — hard to interpret and share. They are academic papers, with as many references as sentences. They attempt to conform to the standards of academic journals. Their process requires creativity in many ways (a reason why I am still here), but they are intentionally dry and overtly inaccesible. When my mom said she couldn’t understand some of my recent writing, I knew I’d gone too far.
And so this outlet is born. Here I indulge in a writing practice that grounds me and my work in reality. I hope to highlight and celebrate how interesting the work that I get to do really is. I hope that by writing about my work in accessible ways, you might find it interesting, and maybe even useful, too.
With all of my heart, thank you for reading.
